I like the idea of New Year's resolutions, but I've never been good at making good ones. They're usually too general, such as "I want to be a better person," or "lose weight." This year, I'm going to try to be more realistic as well as specific and see if that helps my rate of success and satisfaction.
1. Live in the moment. I want to enjoy every free moment to its fullest with my kids. Instead of just keeping them busy so I can get something else done, I'm going to forget that "something else" (which is usually something like laundry or dishes) and really BE with them. They're growing up so fast.
2. Document. Yes, they are growing up fast, so I want to make sure I'm getting it all down so that I can remember all the cute questions, discoveries, lessons and hugs when they are gone from me. Photos, blog entries, baby books.
3. Take care of myself too. I've definitely "let myself go" since Max was born. A few reasons for that are learning to be a mom at the same time as opening a business, learning to run it/market it, had another baby, etc. Now it is time to return to taking better care of myself on every level.
That means excercising, eating better, possibly going back to school or finding an interesting part-time job. Maybe Adrian and I can even take dance lessons or something. It is time to think about what, besides loving and caring for my kids, I want to do with the rest of my life. At 35 years old, it's certainly important to start checking more items off my "things I want to do before I die" list.
4. Re-connect. I can be a hermit. I resolve to be more social this year. I will reach out to friends I haven't seen in a while and try to spend more time with friends and family.
I think that's more than enough to keep me busy until next year.
